Odds 'n ends. . .
How much time do you spend commuting? Here's the setup. I live 23 miles from where I work. That's my choice, so I have to live with it. Between driving to the park & ride and the bus trip to the base, I spend a one hour going and about an hour and a quarter returning.
I have a flex schedule, so I have every other Friday off. Considering that, plus holidays, plus vacation, I make that trip 207 times per year.
When I do the math - 207 days x 2.25 hours/day, that's the equivalent of 58 eight-hour days in transit. Amazing, wot?
It's not wasted, though. It provides some well-needed reading time. On the bus, that is . . . not driving to the park and ride.

That's cool that you can read on the bus. How far from the park-n-ride to your house?
Five days a week I spend a total of 325 minutes in the car. Wait, no that's not right, as I carpool twice a week. It's actually 265 minutes.
But it is a lot of time.
I do my vocal exercises 4x weekly, 25 mins each, on the way to pick Kelly up in the afternoon so that's somewhat productive. Couldn't quite see me doing those on a bus, could you?
I now spend an average of 15 minutes in my car on work days.. for the first time in, well, since I started working!
Isn't it funny that you used to hate following the bus, and now you are riding the bus?
:)
I'm well on my way to the short bus . . .
It's the only bus I've ever known.
