. . . strikes again.
California Governor Jerry Brown on Saturday signed a bill giving illegal immigrant college students access to state-funded financial aid, the second half of two-part legislation known as the "Dream Act."The oft-used "we're a nation of immigrants" argument is irrelevant here.
Yes, we're a nation of immigrants. I am not a Native American. However, my ancestors - all of them, as I can best determine - entered this country legally.
The word "illegal" has a meaning. It means we should be compassionate. It does NOT mean that we should offer up the keys to the homestead to everyone who sneaks in the back door.
And we wonder why we're going broke?

It does seem a bit odd that if your status is "not supposed to be here" then why would anyone give people financial aid...for anything other than medical emergencies, an interpreter and legal counsel?
Isn't the whole point about being illegal that you should sort that problem out first? It would help, of course, if the system that deals with it is a lot quicker and more efficient but none-the-less it confuses me why anyone would not address their immigration status as a priority first? Surely if their status as 'illegal' is incorrect then it should be righted which then opens up a whole host of opportunities to the individual - and stops wasting a lot of time and effort dragging them backwards and forwards through places due to their breaching of the rules of immigration?
Very very confusing thinking.
Very odd.
The Governor has had too much legal Mary Jane.
Texas gives illegals in-state tuition. That really angers me. If a legal citizen went from Oklahoma to a Texas college they have to pay out-of-state tuition. But if you aren't a citizen it's ok.
I want to open your blog one day and see that you are running for office. We are going broke and no one seems to have the sense to do anything about it!
