Sharia . . .

The Archbishop of Canterbury says the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the UK "seems unavoidable".

Dr Rowan Williams told Radio 4's World at One that the UK has to "face up to the fact" that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system. He says Muslims should not have to choose between "the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty".
I think this guy generally makes more sense . . . .:

Than this guy:

We have a similar situation in the U.S. We call those who do not "relate to the American legal system" convicts.

Move along . . . move along . . . nothing to see here . . . nothing to see . . .

That's BS.

I know where you're coming from on this, my initial reaction to Rowans rant was similar but in actual fact the Muslims aren't looking for we in the UK to accept or include any part of sharia law into our criminal laws. It is more our acceptance of issues such as their marriages etc. I don't have a problem with that, we already live in a multi cultural society where we live alongside one anothers religions and many different aspects of culture. My only problem is that in many places the culturs and individuals don't integrate with one another...it's that which causes the problems in my opinion.

Jane,

I'm not concerned about sharia becoming governing law in the UK or in the US. However, do we want alternative systems of law defining issues such as marriage and divorce? Sharia is generally very unfriendly to women, and I think that should be of concern in all free countries.

Then there's the question of how much sharia? Is this a foot in the door?
